Australian Shepherd - Lilla - Medium - Young - Female - Dog
If you are looking for someone to love who will give that love back in spades, Lilla is your girl. All dogs are wonderful. Lilla is spectacular. The first time I met Lilla I knelt down in front of her kennel. She reached through the fencing and gently placed her paw on top of my head. She is the very best kind of dog. She does not like small spaces (she does not like to go into a crate, but is fine once inside) and needs someone who will be as gentle as she is. Once she understands that she is loved, her confidence will blossom. The day I took Lilla?s photographs, all she wanted was to be held. I laid on the ground and she climbed on top of my chest to snuggle. I had to hand the camera off to someone else because all I wanted to do was enjoy holding her.
Lilla is a brown and tan Australian Shepherd mix. She was born October 2010 and was rescued from Catoosa County Animal Control.
Lilla was heartworm positive when she was rescued and has completed heartworm treatment in a foster home. She is now heartworm free, healthy, and ready for a home where she can run and play. Heartworms are spread through mosquitos. Unfortunately, this dog's previous owner did not keep her on any type of monthly preventative. It is very important tat Lilla, like all dogs, be on monthly heartworm preventative for the rest of her life. For more information about heartworm disease, visit / .
Australian Shepherds are loyal, dependable, easygoing companions. They have a gentle nature that prevents play from ever getting rough. They are also eager to work. Give them a job and they will get it done with loads of energy to spare.
Australian Shepherds can be a little standoffish at first. Shown kindness, however, they become comfortable with new people and come out of their shells. They are highly intelligent and have a strong sense of loyalty to their families. Lilla is great with other animals. Her foster home has both dogs and cats. She is gentle and friendly with everyone. Her foster mom said she believes Lilla has the ability to get along with all creatures.
Like most herding breeds, Australian Shepherds have a strong work ethic. They love having a job to do. Left alone indoors for too long, they can become unhappy. For this reason, they are not really suited for apartments. Take them out for a long hike or run in the woods?the activity and mental stimulation will result in a very happy dog.
Lilla is currently in foster care.
