Chow Chow - Ester - Large - Adult - Female - Dog
Ester is a blind Chow Chow/Shetland Sheepdog Sheltie mix and is simply a really good dog. She is so gentle, sweet, and kind that it is unbelievable she ever wound up in a shelter. Ester was rescued from Catoosa County Animal Control. Her lack of vision has sharpened her other senses and this makes her highly adaptable. She easily recognizes people by their sounds and scent. She even recognizes the sounds of the cars of the people who take care or her when we pull onto the parking lot. She knows the difference between our cars and those of visitors. Ester moves carefully making all her movements very gentle. Ester is overweight (she weighs 56 pounds) and will feel much more comfortable when she has lost a few pounds. She was born around June 1, 2007.
Ester is a mix of two breeds with beautiful coats and devoted dispositions. Her coat is very soft and needs a frequent, gentle brushing, which Ester enjoys. Ester is EXCELLENT with cats, she does not even mind cats that do not like dogs. While in her foster home, a cat bopped Ester in the face a few times and she did not flinch or growl, just moved in a different direction. She is housetrained, but does need help getting to the grass. Ester is fine with smaller dogs with calm energy who understand that she is visually impaired.
True Arctic dogs, Chow Chows have a strong pack mentality and are normally considered one-person dogs, bonding intensely with their masters and close family members. Chow Chows have an underlying patience and graciousness that is easy to fall in love with. Most Chow Chows are reserved with strangers, but not Ester ? she loves everyone. Not particularly active, Chows make fine apartment dogs. These are intelligent creatures, eager to please their families.
Bred for generations as hardy and solitary herding dogs, Shetland Sheepdogs are tough dogs with protective instincts. Though great with families, ?Shelties? tend to be one-person dogs (again, Ester loves everyone), focusing on their masters with an intense love and devotion. However, when surrounded by a family that offers positive training and attention, Shetland Sheepdogs will come out of their shells in a typically reserved way.
Shetland Sheepdogs have a keen, almost-human intelligence. Shelties are very good at reading human moods. They have an uncanny ability to know what you?re thinking the moment you think it.
All Ester wants is someone who belongs to her. She responds to kindness and never forgets it. If you have space in your life for a dog that will return your love and be a permanent part of your heart, Ester is waiting for you.
