Tabby - White - Walden - Medium - Adult - Male - Cat
Walden is a white and brown marble Tabby gentleman who is independent and endearing. He is missing a few teeth and this causes him to wear a permanent snarl. He looks like a curmudgeon, but he is really full of love and good vibes. In person, his charisma is intoxicating. Walden was born around December 1, 2007. He was surrendered to PPC after showing up at someone's home in terrible condition. He had been fending for himself as an outdoor cat, was underweight, covered with cat lice, tested positive for FIV, and the pads of two feet were raw, swollen and painful. The foot pad issue is a rare inflammatory issue that is exacerbated by stress and is not contagious to other animals. Walden has been groomed and is now in foster care gaining weight and getting lots of pampering while his feet slowly heal. He loves being an inside cat. His main activities are sitting in laps and pounding toy mice with the enthusiasm of a 6 week old kitten. Feline Immunodeficiency Virus is a manageable disease that is frequently misunderstood; many FIV positive cats live long happy, healthy lives with proper care. Walden is very strong and his inflamed foot pads should be fine once they have healed. His appetite is great and his immunity is growing stronger every day. Walden should have a home as an only cat or with other FIV positive cats. For cats like Walden, management of FIV involves a proper diet and prompt, aggressive treatment of infections and other conditions as they crop up throughout life. Your veterinarian will work with you to establish a plan to keep Walden healthy. Walden will need to be an inside only cat and flea control is important, as fleas transmit a number of other parasites and flea bites themselves can become infected, which would be a cause for concern. For more information about FIV, visit /theanimals/petcare/cats_fiv.cfm. Walden is in a foster home enjoying maid service and the novelty of having someone make sure he has plenty to eat all the time.
