Reese American Pit Bull Terrier Adult Male in Chattanooga, Tennessee

My story
I'm Reese, a young guy who hadn't been given much attention in my life. Like so many dogs that come to the shelter, this is the best life I've ever known - so far -- until the right adopter finds me. I respond to slow movements, easy stroking and gentle voices. I love treats. Let's not forget that. Most of all, I love balls and will play fetch with you, even returning the ball and laying it at your feet! If you have a fenced yard, playing fetch is an easy way for me to get lots of exercise and for us to bond.

That's what I like. What I'm not crazy about is getting a lead put over my head - unless you have a yummy treat just past the loop. Treats make everything better.

That dominant stuff that some people do with dogs isn't for me. Easy-going is best. Patient is best. Dog-savvy people are best. Adults-only are best. A quieter home is best.

The shelter gives new dogs a test, sort of, on how we are with people, other dogs, and being handled like a vet does. I did well on almost everything, but being handled. I just wasn't used to it. I'm still working on being handled and am doing better.

If we meet and go home together, shelter people suggest a crate with a soft bed. I'm a bit of a shy, scared-y boy right now and may be that way at first when you take me home. A crate (with treats!) could be my safe place until I get used to being your dog. It's not a place of punishment, but a place of relaxation.

If you adopt me, we'll have to attend training classes together. The shelter requires it, but there's no extra cost. It's to get us started on the right foot toward a happy life forever.

Sound good? Fill out an online adoption form and ask to meet me. Ask for Reese.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Reese, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
